• In-the-water demonstrations by Coast Guard personnel show the features & advantages of various PFDs (Personal Flotation Devices) for different activities & conditions.

• A “likely victim” sequence covers the major mistakes that lead to fatal boating accidents.

HYPOTHERMIA: OUTDOOR KILLER

  • A rain-drenched woman hiker,
  • A soaked and lost hunter,
  • Exhauseted cross-country skiers,
• All face death by hypothermia.
  
  
• Teaches viewers how to prevent & treat hypothermia, the dangerous body cooling caused by outdoor activity in cold, wet and windy conditions

COLD WATER CAN KILL

• Dramatic action:
  • A cold water canoeing accident results in death
  • A family boat overturns, but the family is saved because they are prepared for a cold-water accident.
    
    
• Teaches viewers how to prevent and treat immersion hypothermia, the life-threatening cooling of the body core that occurs when a person is immersed in cold water.

EMERGENCY SURVIVAL IN WINTER

• Dramatic action:
  • A stranded pick-up truck driver,
  • Two women skiers sustain an injury
  • Two young, out-of-gas snowmobilers get stuck outdoors far from quickly available help.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE OUTDOORS
